Dear Neighbors,

As you’re probably aware, construction is underway on our church property, and I wanted to make sure you knew what it was all about. When all the noise and dust and inconveniences are over, we hope to have a facility and landscaping that can benefit everyone in our neighborhood!

First of all, we’re building an extension to our building so we have more nursery and classroom space. We will also have a multi-purpose room with its own kitchenette that can be rented out to the community for various functions. All of the building additions and renovations should be done before the end of the year.

Outside the building we are making many other changes. We will have a new and expanded playground, and we welcome anyone in the neighborhood to use the playground when it is finished. We are also planning on having community gardens for any of our neighbors who would like to grow their own food.

Last fall we began planting lots of new trees and shrubs, and we will do more planting later this year. Over 250 native trees and shrubs, resistant to droughts and floods, will produce flowers or fruit for people and wildlife. About half of our lawns will be turned into wetland areas, featuring prairie grasses and wildflowers. Like children, natural areas take time and patience to develop. It will take two to three years for these areas to bloom nicely through the summer.

We also hope to build an outdoor pavilion where our neighbors can have picnics overlooking the beautiful landscape. A half-mile walking path will go all the way around our property that can be used for exercise and meditation. And a memory garden is being planted to remember loved ones who have died.

Our goal is to make our building and property environmentally friendly and an asset to the entire neighborhood. We want to help our community thrive! With the water line installed and the trench back filled the new shed has the gravel area graded and packed ready for the trash and recycle dumpsters to be moved in place.
